Shooting at Knoxville Church

From local news reports:

Multiple people have suffered gunshot wounds in what witnesses describe as a mass shooting inside a church in West Knoxville Sunday morning [July 27 2008]. The shootings happened at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church on Kingston Pike.

A children's production of "Annie" was taking place as part of the normal Sunday service at the time of the shooting, the witness, who is a member of the church, said. The gunman walked into a packed sanctuary and opened fire.

Two people were killed and seven more wounded. The shooter was subdued by church members. He was apparently a fierce "old south" partisan who "hated liberals".

This exploration was undertaken because of my feelings of personal connections. One of the critically wounded is a close friend of fellow SSE member Schera Chadwick. And my son, who is the software architect for the GCP has a connection to the Unitarian Church in Knoxville. It was his congregation when he lived there.

The shooting was sometime between 10 and 11 local time, which is 14:00 - 15:00 GMT. The result is a striking graph showing a strong upward trend until about 2 hours before the shooting, then a matching downward trend for the rest of the day.
